The Colosseum
The Roman Colosseum was built between the years 72 and 80. It was used for gladiatorial contests, mock sea battles, reenactments of famous battles, animal hunts, executions and dramas. The maximum capacity was 80,000 people! Long after the fall of the Roman Empire, it was used for housing, workshops and as a fortress. It was even used as a quarry. Though it has been standing for almost 2,000 years, it has been ruined by earthquakes and stone robbers.
