Arenal Volcano
Up until recently, Arenal was Costa Rica's most active volcano. It is 5,437 feet tall. In 1968, it erupted burying three villages and killing 87 people. It has been emitting smoke or lava on an almost daily basis until July, 2010. It has been quiet since then, but is not considered dormant. Access to Arenal is prohibited. We could get close, but no one is allowed to climb it.....probably a good idea. Here you'll find a bunch of photos of the same thing: a volcano.
