Irazu Volcano
At 11,260 Feet, Irazu is the tallest active volcano in Costa Rica. It last erupted in 1994. Due to winding roads and slow traffic, the 3 hour drive took 5 hours. When we got there, it was foggy and raining. The park admissions attendant warned me, before I paid the $30 entrance fee, that we wouldn't see anything because of the fog. I told her to take my money because I didn't drive 5 hours for nothing. I wasn't going to turn around and drive another 5 hours! Considering it was the first week of September and we were close to the equator, we froze up there at 11,000 feet! I had to buy an overpriced souvenir sweatshirt, or risk hypothermia. The attendant was right, we didn't see much of anything. She said the sun could burn it off at any time. We hung around for about an hour and a half, then gave up. I took photos of the caldera even though I couldn't see it in the hopes I could adjust them on the computer. I tweaked the contrast and color of a couple photos and brought out the images, so it wasn't a total loss.
